The Science of Our Star maps
1. Astronomical Precision
At Tailoredwalls, we don’t just draw stars; we map them. Every bespoke print is a precise rendering of the celestial sphere based on the exact moment and location you wish to remember. We use the European Space Agency’s Hipparcos mission catalog, a high-precision dataset generated from years of space-based observations. This allows us to calculate the position of stars for any date—past, present, or future.
2. How to Verify Your Map
Trust is the foundation of our studio. We encourage you to verify the accuracy of your Free Preview using independent third-party software:
Stellarium: A professional-grade, free astronomy tool (stellarium.org).
The Test: Simply enter your date and GPS coordinates into these tools; they will show you the exact same sky we have captured for your print.
3. Understanding the Movement
The stars don't move relative to one another in ways we can see, but our "Spaceship Earth" is constantly spinning and orbiting beneath them.
Location: Your position on Earth determines which half of the "Celestial Sphere" is visible to you.
Time: As the Earth rotates every 24 hours, the stars appear to move across the sky.
The Result: Even a change of a few hours or a few miles can subtly shift the alignment, making your map a truly unique thumbprint of time.
4. Museum-Quality Craftsmanship
A scientifically accurate map deserves a gallery-standard finish.
Magnitude Six Detail: We render stars down to magnitude six—the limit of what is visible to the human eye under a dark sky.
Archival Materials: Each design is printed on 250gsm museum-grade heavyweight matte paper using fade-resistant inks designed to last for generations.
